Location

Elysia is far enough from the hustle and bustle of the city to connect you to nature, but not so far from the big centres that a shorter stay is impossible. Just a two and a half hour drive north west of Sydney on the F3 freeway, Elysia is situated like a citadel atop a large, rolling hill to take advantage of the magnificent views and the Brokenback mountain range.

As soon as you approach the retreat, taking in the fresh air and the lush vistas of the countryside, you’ll notice that you’re beginning to relax and unwind. By the time you reach your destination and enter the retreat, you’ll be ready to leave the mundane world behind and begin a healing journey that will soothe and balance the mind, body and spirit.

Directions to The Golden Door Health Retreat – Elysia (from Sydney)

  • From the centre of Sydney, cross the Harbour Bridge and proceed along the Pacific Highway to the National 1 (F3) Freeway at Wahroonga
  • Travel north towards Newcastle (approximately 1 hour ) 100km
  • Turn off freeway at Cessnock/Kurri Kurri exit (Highway 82) and follow signs to Cessnock (15 mins)  (change to  20-30 Mins)
  • As you enter Cessnock along Aberdare Road, turn right at the first set of traffic lights onto Vincent Street
  • Proceed through Cessnock to Allandale Road following signs to Branxton
  • Turn left at traffic lights onto Wollombi Road (following directional signs to Branxton – still Highway 82) and then first right at the traffic lights onto Allandale Road, passing swimming pool on the left and McDonalds restaurant on the right
  • Proceed along Allandale Road, 5km out of Cessnock you will pass Cessnock Airport and the Visitor Information Centre on the left
  • Turn left 500 metres past the airport into Broke Road
  • Follow Broke Road for 3km to T-intersection
  • Turn left at T-intersection onto McDonalds Road. Remain on this road and turn right onto Thompsons Road after Brokenwood (delete) and Tamburlaine wineries
  • Follow Thompsons Road (passing Cypress Lakes Resort on your left). Proceed for 1.5km and take your first left following the directional signs to Elysia

  • As you leave the airport carpark, turn left and follow this road to the main road, which is Nelson Bay Road
  • Turn right and follow until you come to a roundabout and turn right onto Tomago Road, which will take you to Hexham
  • Follow this road to a large T intersection and turn left to Hexham
  • Over the Hexham Bridge, turn right at traffic lights towards Maitland/Cessnock
  • Approximately 5km, take the exit to Kurri Kurri/Cessnock, following this road all the way through to Cessnock
  • Once you have entered Cessnock turn right at the traffic lights onto Allandale Road, passing swimming pool on the left and McDonalds restaurant on the right
  • Proceed along Allandale Road, 5km out of Cessnock you will pass Cessnock Airport and the Visitor Information Centre on the left

  • Domestic airlines operate services into Newcastle Airport from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
  • We offer a complimentary shuttle transfer service from Newcastle airport for all guests staying on our 7 day Health Enhancement Program (at set times only). If you are staying on the 5 day health program or as an Independent Retreat Guest there is a small fee to use this service.

    • Please speak with our reservations staff to discuss your requirements NB: Train lines do not service the area.

    Sunday Arrival Details

    If you would like to use our shuttle transfer service from Sydney to Elysia, we offer 2 pick up locations.

    Sydney Airport - please arrange your flight to land no later than 9.00am at Sydney Domestic Airport Terminal Three. Meeting point will be at the Qantas arrivals area. The bus will depart at 9.30am sharp.

    Chatswood Train Station - Bus will meet curb side at Railway Street Bus Stop departing at 10.00am sharp. (10.15am sharp)

    Friday & Sunday Departure Details

    Our shuttle transfer service will depart Elysia at 12.30pm following lunch, arriving into Chatswood Train Station at 3.30pm and Sydney Domestic Airport (Terminal 3) at 4.30pm. Please ensure you allow some additional time for flight check in with your carrier.

    Scheduled Transfers to and from Newcastle Airport

    Sunday Arrivals:

    Our transfer service will pick up at 9.00am from Newcastle airport meeting outside the baggage claim area.

    Friday Departures:

    Our transfer service departs Elysia at 11.45am and have you arriving at Newcastle Airport at 1.00pm.

    *Departing flights to Melbourne are not available until the evening. We reccomend booking your return flights from Sydney airport and taking the Sydney shuttle bus from Elysia to Sydney (see above for time for arrival Sydney airport).

    Sunday Departures:

    Our transfer service departs Elysia at 11.45am and have you arriving at Newcastle Airport at 1.00pm.

    Transfer Rates: Scheduled transfers are complimentary for guests staying on the 7 day Health Enhancement Program. Guests staying for the 5 day Optimal Wellness Program can utilise the shuttle transfers at a cost of $60 per person, one way from Sydney or $50 per person, one way from Newcastle.

    • Transfers depart on set days and set times. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure times specified above

    • When flying out of Sydney to return home, please ensure you allow an additional hour to the time requirements of your airline, as traffic and weather may affect the arrival time back to Sydney Airport from Elysia
    • Is it our priority to ensure that your transfer departs at the times specific above however traffic and weather may sometimes cause delays beyond our control
