The aim of acupuncture is to stimulate the body in order to treat itself. This is primarily achieved by influencing Bioenergy (Qi), which permeates the whole body. The main pathway, by which Qi moves throughout the body, is called the Human Internal Energy System (or Meridians). Acupuncture improves the free flowing of this system, by the insertion of very fine pins along this pathway. Shiatsu (50 min) $125
Shiatsu is an Oriental massage where thumbs, fingers and palms are pressed on particular points of the body (tsubos) to ease aches and pains, tension, fatigue and symptoms of stress. The client is on a traditional futon, on the floor. Pressure points can feel uncomfortable when the flow of qi (energy) is blocked or congested. These points are located along energy meridians in the body and the pressure applied will help to disperse the energy throughout the body. Shiatsu will help strengthen the internal organs and create a harmonious balance between body, mind and soul, and encourage a deep feeling of relaxation and calm. This treatment is conducted fully clothed so please wear loose, comfortable clothing to this treatment.

Structural Integration is a series of sessions of deep tissue bodywork and movement re-education designed in an holistic approach to realign the body, release chronic tension and stress, and to create freedom & fluidity in movement. S.I. is a system designed to recondition the whole body. Although it can be very effective treatment for injuries, it is not a remedy for illness; rather it is a process in which people are moved from their current ‘average’ state to a more optimal state of health and well-being. Structural Integration is a series of 50 or 80 minute sessions, with each session building on the previous to accomplish full body alignment and balance. Your practitioner can design sessions to suit your individual requirements. Sessions are available individually although a 3 or 5 session series is recommended for a more comprehensive result of alignment, grace and balance. Men, please wear underwear to this treatment while ladies, please wear either bra and underwear or a 2 piece bathing suit.

Trigger Point Therapy (50 min) $150, (80 min) $220
A Trigger Point is a hypersensitive spot within the muscle which, when a muscle becomes contracted or tight it is the focus area of tightness. It is tender when compressed and if sufficiently sensitive, gives rise to referred pain to another area. A common example of this referred pain is a tension headache, a Trigger Point in the upper trapezius muscle, when active, will refer up into the head (as seen below). This is one muscle of many which can produce headache pain.

The fastest way to release a contracted muscle and the pain producing Trigger Point is by compressing the exact spot where the Trigger Point is located; this relaxes the Trigger Point and consequently releases the whole muscle. Our knowledge and understanding of Trigger Points was greatly assisted by the work of a Dr Janet Travell, she documented each Trigger Point and it’s characteristic pain pattern. When a massage therapist has a good knowledge of each trigger point and where the pain refers they can effectively relieve tightness and pain.

Naturopathy is a complete system of health care guided by the healing power of nature, based on the principles of first doing no harm, finding the cause, prevention, education and most importantly treating the whole person - not only the disease. Naturopathic practitioners are trained to identify and treat dysfunction long before it manifests as a diagnosable disease. In so doing there is an important focus on prevention, although they can also support a client back to wellness from a diagnosed disease. The naturopathic philosophy maintains that the body can heal itself if given the right conditions. The process of maintaining this healthy internal balance is called homeostasis. Naturopathy believes that illness is more likely to occur if the body is 'knocked out' of homeostasis by lifestyle or environmental factors.

Our Resident Practitioner, Pam Harries, has been working in various forms of medicine for 38yrs. As a Registered Nurse, Medical Herbalist and Iridologist she has a broad range of knowledge and a passion for education.
