Spring into self-care

Spring is in sight however with the cold weather still upon us, it’s a great time to renew your self-care routine. Why is self-care so important? It’s vital in helping you to stay at the top of your form physically, emotionally and mentally. It can help you feel healthy, relaxed and ready to take on your work and responsibilities. Need some suggestions? Let us help you with that – with some tips from our program team.

Boost your immunity

With the cold and flu season still in full force, be sure to boost your immunity in as many ways as possible. You can do this by treating yourself to a turmeric latte with ginger and almond milk, by taking daily olive leaf extract as well as supplements like Echinacea, that all look to reduce inflammation and increase your immunity shield. Hand hygiene has also been recognised as the single most important way to prevent the transmission of infectious agents. Sophie Robertson – Retreat Nurse

Prioritise a good night’s sleep

One of the most effective methods of preventing illness is to get adequate sleep every night. Most of us need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night so if you feel you don’t get that then you may easily become run down and unwell. Think about sleeping anywhere, anytime and any circumstance – grab a 20-minute nap when you can as it will re-charge you and help prevent illness. Mel Ingram – Clinical Health Services Manager

 

Rise and shine

Get out into the winter sunshine! It’s refreshing, invigorating and rewarding. Your body will love you for the change of environment and movement it gets when you do get outside and if you have a dog, the love you get from them will come back tenfold. I know my dog looks at the shoes I’m wearing to determine whether she is going bush or not and the excitement when I am wearing the ‘right’ shoes is contagious! She’s happy to get wet if it’s rainy and doesn’t mind if it’s early so grab a beanie, a big warm jacket and some gloves and enjoy the world and all it has to offer.  Mel Ingram – Clinical Health Services Manager

Daily oil massage

Introduce a daily oil massage routine to relieve dry, rough and cracking skin. Massage lukewarm oil into the skin starting at the fingers and feet working towards the centre of the chest, leave for 15 minutes to soak in and then rinse in a warm shower. Best oils to use are black sesame, almond, olive or macadamia. Peter Rule – Holistic Health Services Manager
